New Hanover has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Laney Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, New Hanover beat North Brunswick 30-21.
Caden Morton and Jackson Eller were among the main playmakers for New Hanover as the former rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
New Hanover's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Zihiem Graham and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Laney's strategy against West Brunswick on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Laney blew West Brunswick out of the water with a 49-7 final score. Laney pushed the score to 39-7 by the end of the third, a deficit West Brunswick had no chance of recovering from.
Laney's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyjhere Crudup, who rushed for 89 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Tristan Cotto also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
New Hanover is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Laney has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: New Hanover has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 154.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Laney struggles in that department as they've been even better at 159.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
New Hanover skirted past Laney 23-21 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Hanover since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
