Two dominant in Armani Owens and Sarah Magadan are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Garey Vikings's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Don Lugo Conquistadores at 3:30 p.m. on December 15th. Garey will be strutting in after a victory while Don Lugo will be coming in after a loss.
Last Tuesday, Garey was able to grind out a solid win over Duarte, taking the game 55-48.
Owens was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 19 rebounds. The contest was her 11th in a row with at least ten points. Alyssa Herrera was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Don Lugo unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They were beaten by Chino 74-20. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Don Lugo has scored all season.
Don Lugo's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Makena Encarnacion, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and four blocks, and Magadan who scored three points. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for her.
Garey's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Don Lugo, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Garey have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41.1% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Don Lugo, though, as they've only nailed 30.5% of their threes per game this season. Given Garey's sizeable advantage in that area, Don Lugo will need to find a way to close that gap.
Garey didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Don Lugo when the teams last played back in December of 2019, but they still walked away with a 43-37 win. Does Garey have another victory up their sleeve, or will Don Lugo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
