Mt. Eden hasn't had much luck against Newark Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Monarchs will head out to face off against the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. Mt. Eden will be strutting in after a victory while Newark Memorial will be coming in after a loss.
Mt. Eden will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Mission San Jose on Friday. The Monarchs came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 10-7. The win continues a trend for the Monarchs in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.
Jayden Schafer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schafer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Javier Alfaro was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season. Branden Vilayphanh was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Mt. Eden was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission San Jose only posted a batting average of .286.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Newark Memorial nor Encinal made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Cougars fell just short of the Jets by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Mt. Eden's record is now 2-3. As for Newark Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Mt. Eden couldn't quite finish off Newark Memorial in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Monarchs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
