The North East Grape Pickers lost against the Erie Royals back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. North East fell 53-42 to Erie. North East has struggled against Erie recently, as their match on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why North East lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alexandra Cozzens. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was Cozzens' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kayla Forsythe, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Erie's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deaja Williams, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Williams scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Neavins, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
North East's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-3. As for Erie, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North East will take on Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Northwestern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday. As for Erie, they will be playing at home against McDowell at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
