Basketball Recap: Highland Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Highland had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They took down the Chinle Wildcats 56-39. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hawks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Wildcats are ranked 43rd).

Leading Highland to victory were Bailey Williams and Emilee Searle. Williams shot 42% from the field to rack up 12 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Searle went 5-for-11 en route to 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Searle has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Draves, who posted eight points.

When it comes to explaining why Chinle lost, don't look at Cheyenne Littleman. Despite the final result, she put up ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Littleman also posted a block, marking her first of the season. Elayah Pete was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Highland's record is now 8-1. As for Chinle, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Highland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-51 defeat against Flagstaff on the 13th. As for Chinle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 70-35 victory against Monument Valley on the 16th.
