The Torrey Pines Falcons will be taking part in a tournament against the Del Norte Nighthawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Torrey Pines' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Del Norte's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Torrey Pines' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Sage Creek by a score of 5-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.
Jack Swanberg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Jake Price looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Dolan Maher was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Aiden Stroot also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Del Norte fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against La Jolla Country Day on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 4-1 to the Torreys.
Richie Moore made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Grey Gusich, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Del Norte now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Torrey Pines, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Torrey Pines has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Del Norte struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Torrey Pines came out on top in a nail-biter against Del Norte when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Does Torrey Pines have another victory up their sleeve, or will Del Norte turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
