Kimball is a perfect 4-0 against McNair since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Kimball Jaguars will venture away from home to face off against the McNair Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
Last Thursday, Kimball was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 43-38 to Lodi. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Flames recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Kimball's loss came about despite a quality game from Nadia Mirghani, who posted seven points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. That's the most blocks Mirghani has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Coronado, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for McNair, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top against Bear Creek by a score of 70-62 last Thursday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 420th, while the Bruins are ranked 1036th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McNair's win came from a few key players Kimball will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kalysa Phanhsavang, who almost dropped a triple-double with 24 points, nine boards, and ten assists. She has become a key player for McNair: the team is undefeated when she posts at least ten assists, but 7-12 otherwise. Anjulie Navarro was another key player, going 9-for-14 on her way to 24 points and five steals.
McNair has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.9 points over those games. As for Kimball, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Kimball has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like McNair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Kimball against McNair in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, as the squad secured a 76-16 win. Will Kimball repeat their success, or does McNair have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
