It's playoff time, and Hearts Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Victory Baptist Warrior on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Gavin Dyson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Charlie Bill was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Jameson Wood was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Hearts Academy's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Victory Baptist, they moved to 14-7 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.
As of now, neither Hearts Academy nor the Warrior have any future games scheduled.
