There's no place like home for the Sheldon Huskies, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 44-34 win over Rio Americano on Saturday.
Sheldon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Charlize Miles, who scored eight points along with four blocks. Miles has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Nyah Duong was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Despite the loss, Rio Americano still got an impressive performance from Katie Ghazanfari, who scored 13 points. Ghazanfari continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna St. Jean, who scored seven points.
Sheldon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. As for Rio Americano, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sheldon and St. Francis will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Francis has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Rio Americano and Christian Brothers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Christian Brothers presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rio Americano in California (Christian Brothers is ranked 122nd, while Rio Americano is ranked 910th).
