On Saturday, it was a hard-fought match, but Cornerstone Christian had to settle for a 44-41 defeat against Newberg.
Cornerstone Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mecca Alexander, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Alexander scored a full 36.6% of Cornerstone Christian's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Alexander, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Cornerstone Christian has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-3 record this season. As for Newberg, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.
Cornerstone Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face California School for the Deaf at 2:30 p.m. on January 5th. As for Newberg, they will be playing at home against Tualatin at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
