The Mendocino Cardinals were the 52-35 winner over the Round Valley Mustangs when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Mendocino took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs on Tuesday. Mendocino has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Round Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayla Hinman, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds and two blocks. Hinman is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Josey Spurlock, who scored eight points along with three steals and two blocks.
Mendocino's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5. As for Round Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mendocino will take on the Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Potter Valley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Round Valley, they will play host again and welcome the Pirates, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Point Arena is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
