The Cabrillo Conquistadores came tearing into Tuesday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Foothill Tech with points to spare, taking the game 47-33. Given Cabrillo's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Foothill Tech is ranked 501st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cabrillo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rylie Jenkins led the charge by scoring 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Angeliyah Gonzalez, who scored 12 points.
Cabrillo's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-1. As for Foothill Tech, they bumped their record down to 5-4 with that loss, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cabrillo will be home for the holidays to greet Lompoc at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Foothill Tech will take on Santa Barbara at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Barbara is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
