After three games on the road, Covenant Day is heading back home. They will take on the Cary Academy Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Covenant Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Covenant Day didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Wesleyan Christian Academy, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given Covenant Day's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Wesleyan Christian Academy is ranked 21st).
Covenant Day's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Marcus Jr., who scored 21 points along with 6 rebounds. The contest was Marcus Jr.'s third in a row with at least ten points. Tyree White was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Cary Academy's good fortune finally ran out last Saturday. They lost to Providence Day on the road by a decisive 55-36 margin.
Chambers' win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Covenant Day's defeat dropped theirs to 1-3.
Everything came up roses for Covenant Day against Cary Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2022 as the team secured a 78-44 win. Does Covenant Day have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cary Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
