Garinger has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the East Mecklenburg Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Garinger is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than East Mecklenburg in North Carolina (Garinger is ranked 165th, while East Mecklenburg is ranked 432nd).
Last Friday, Garinger came up short against Butler and fell 53-45. The loss put an end to Garinger's undefeated start to the season.
Despite the loss, Garinger saw an underclassman step up: Misa Garris scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. The game was Garris' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raziah Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds.
East Mecklenburg can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Piedmont by a score of 64-52.
East Mecklenburg's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jade Marshall, who scored 16 points, and Mackenna Weisner, who scored 18 points along with 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Presense Downer, who scored 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
Garinger's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for East Mecklenburg, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Garinger have been dynamite from deep this season, having only nailed 34.4% of their threes per game. It's a different story for East Mecklenburg, though, as they've only made 26.8% of theirs this season.
