The Southwest EC Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the San Luis Sidewinders at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Southwest EC 2.1, San Luis 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Southwest EC's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Somerton as they made off with an 18-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Southwest EC gave Anthony McFarland the start and clearly made the right call: he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Southwest EC let Joseph McFarland and Athzel Gonzalez run wild. McFarland went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Gonzalez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most RBI McFarland has posted since back in April of 2025. Edgardo Camacho was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Southwest EC kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, San Luis was able to grind out a solid win over Holtville on Tuesday, taking the game 5-0. The victory continues a trend for the Sidewinders in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won five in a row.
Santiago Partida tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Heri De La Cruz, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Gonzales, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Southwest EC's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for San Luis, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Southwest EC has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like San Luis struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
