Softball Recap: Cedaredge Has No Trouble Against Gunnison

Cedaredge won the last time they faced Gunnison and things went their way on Saturday too. The Bruins blew past the Cowboys 17-4. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Tia Homedew was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Meri Hollembeak, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emery Stirnkorb, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Cedaredge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Cedaredge and bumps their season record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Gunnison, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Cedaredge wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-0 win against Aspen on the 8th. As for Gunnison, they are taking a road trip to take on Delta at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cowboys' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season.
