Baseball Recap: Mt. Eden Sets Scoring Season-High Against Tennyson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Eden). They blew past the Tennyson Lancers 34-0 on Friday. With that victory, the Monarchs brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Mateo Romo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mt. Eden is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise. Romo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Javier Alfaro III looked comfortable as he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

Back at the plate, Cristian Alvarenga was incredible, scoring six runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Mt. Eden: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bryan Zamora, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Mt. Eden was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Mt. Eden back to even at 8-8. As for Tennyson, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Mt. Eden will face off against Mission San Jose at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Monarchs are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Tennyson, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Arroyo at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
