After flying high against Vista on Friday, Mt. Carmel came back down to earth. The Sundevils took a 54-36 bruising from the Bonita Vista Barons on Saturday. Despite the loss, Mt. Carmel saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ariana Gonzalez posted 11 points and seven boards. Gonzalez has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Mattea Castro was another key player, putting up five points and three steals.
Affiani Saleaumua-Trisby was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds for Bonita Vista. That makes it six consecutive games in which Saleaumua-Trisby has scored at least a third of the Barons' points. Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Bonita Vista, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.
Mt. Carmel wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-38 loss against Escondido on the 14th. As for Bonita Vista, they will be playing at home against Southwest SD at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
