The Elk River Elks pushed their score all the way to 32 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were outmatched by Andover on the road and fell 65-32. Elk River was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-16.
Elk River's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Schmidt, who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also picked up 47 receiving yards. Schmidt was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Carsyn Kleffman also helped out as he racked up 129 rushing yards.
Chase Pemberton was on fire for Andover: he threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per attempt, and also punched in three touchdowns on the ground. Andover also got help from Luke Dehnicke who showed off his sure hands for 101 receiving yards.
Elk River's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Andover, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Elk River does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Andover will face off against Robbinsdale Armstrong at TBD on Saturday. Robbinsdale Armstrong is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
