The Grapevine Faith Christian Lions will head out to challenge the Midland Christian Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Lions on Friday. Grapevine Faith Christian took a blow against Trinity Christian, falling 56-7. Grapevine Faith Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
Despite the loss, Grapevine Faith Christian got top-tier performance from Jacob Montes, who picked up 181 receiving yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown. Montes really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 75 yards. Walker Little was in the mix too, providing Grapevine Faith Christian with one score.
Grapevine Faith Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lucca Lovera and Canon Hunter. Grapevine Faith Christian received some extra help from Little, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Midland Christian played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by All S 45-10. The Mustangs have struggled against the Saints recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Even if they lost, Midland Christian's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Cadyn Bishop and Isaiah Mathews, who racked up all four sacks between them. Bishop is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last 20 games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in All S' side was Coy Hayes, who made 15 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Grapevine Faith Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Midland Christian, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.
Grapevine Faith Christian might still be hurting after the 49-28 defeat they got from Midland Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Lions, Avery Morgan (who rushed for 20 yards and four TDs, and also threw for 278 yards and one touchdown while completing 80% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
