The Glendale Vikings suffered their biggest loss since December 2, 2023 on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Williamsburg, falling 51-22. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Glendale in their matchups with Williamsburg: they've now lost nine in a row.
Glendale's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Leiden, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Leiden hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Madison Peterson, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Williamsburg found their leader in underclassman Leeanna Royer, who scored 18 points along with seven steals. Royer has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Levada Gorsuch was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Glendale has fallen quite a ways from their 16-7 record last season and are now at 3-10. As for Williamsburg, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season.
Glendale will take on West Branch at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Jenna Mertz and Peterson. As for Williamsburg, they will head out on the road to square off against Juniata Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Juniata Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.
