Marshall extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-3. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the South El Monte Eagles. The game marked the Barristers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Nicholas Allan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Freddy Hernandez-Robles was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Daniel Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
As for South El Monte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch.
On South El Monte's side, Anthony Mata was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Mata was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Gabriel Canchola was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Bobby Rojas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Coming up, Marshall is taking a road trip to challenge Burroughs at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for South El Monte, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 4-3 win against Edgewood on the 10th.
