Basketball Game Preview: Reed Raiders vs. Galena Grizzlies

The Reed Raiders will square off against the Galena Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Reed is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.

Reed will head into Monday's game on the come-up: they were handed a 34-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They had just enough and edged Carson out 51-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since January 27, 2024.

Josh Peterson was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 15 on his way to 20 points in addition to three steals and three blocks. Those three blocks gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Hoffman, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Galena was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-46 heartbreaker at the hands of Carson.

Reed will have to contain Zakery Smrt as he made an impact in Galena's last game. He went 6 of 13 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stone Rasmussen, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Galena's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Reed, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-9.

Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Reed has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 45.3% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Galena, though, as they've only made 27.2% of their three-pointers this season. Given Reed's sizable advantage in that area, Galena will need to find a way to close that gap.
