Baseball Recap: Calexico Snags 13th Win in Last 14 Games

Calexico hadn't done well against Mission Bay recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bulldogs blew past the Buccaneers 7-0. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

David Lara tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kenneth Calderon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Randy Baez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Calexico has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mission Bay, they moved to 23-7 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Calexico and Mission Bay will both be playing Escondido the next time they take the field. The Buccaneers will host the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Bulldogs will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
