After both having extra time off, the Overhills Jaguars and the Apex Cougars will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 2:00 p.m. on December 27th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
On December 8th, Overhills was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 49-43 to E.E. Smith. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Overhills has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Overhills had strong showings from Ej Stokes, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals, and Deshaun Barton, who scored 11 points along with three steals. The contest was Barton's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Joel Lalin was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five assists and five steals.
Meanwhile, Apex's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 61-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cary. Apex has struggled against Cary recently, as their contest last Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Apex got a solid performance out of Zaelyn White, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. The game was White's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vaibhav Dandala, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Apex were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Overhills has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Apex, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Wednesday as the pair are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Overhills hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.8 points per game. It's a different story for Apex, though, as they've been averaging only 50.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Overhills came up short against Apex in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, falling 75-68. Can Overhills avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
