With the Nebraska boys soccer season heading into Sub-District and District play in a couple of weeks, we have decided to take a look at the top boys soccer performances by saves in goal in this week's Top 10.
With a tie at the top, two goalkeepers stand out so far this season. Sean Fenoglio of Omaha Roncalli Catholic and Seward's Gabby Cobian have each posted 23 saves in goal in a single contest this season to grab the top spot this week.
Fenoglia, who has reached 10 or more saves eight times this season, has made the Top 10 three times. Cobian, on the other hand, has reached double digits in saves twice this spring.
Sitting third is Gering senior Gabriel Duthilleul who landed in the Top 5 twice and stuck three performances in the Top 10 this week. Duthilleul swatted 20 and 18 shots clear of the goal in losses to Elkhorn North and Scottsbluff earlier this month to tie for the third best and the No. 5 effort respectively.
York's Austin Phinney tied Duthilleul for the No. 3 spot when he batted 20 balls away from the net in a 4-2 loss to Lexington in March. In all, 10 athletes have claimed a Top 10 spot after clearing at least 16 shots on goal in a single contest 14 times this season collectively.
As you browse through this week's Top 10, we introduce the athletes on the first line and list their season stats as of Tuesday evening on line two. Of course, the third line and beyond, is reserved for each soccer players' top performance(s) of the season.
