The Tyrone Golden Eagles couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost to Punxsutawney at home by a decisive 56-40 margin on Tuesday. Tyrone lost against Punxsutawney in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 49-21 score last time.
Punxsutawney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emily Dobbins led the charge by scoring 19 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Dobbins has scored at least 25% of Punxsutawney's points. Another player making a difference was Danielle Griebel, who scored 13 points along with 5 steals.
Tyrone's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Punxsutawney, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tyrone will take on Penns Valley Area at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Penns Valley Area focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday. As for Punxsutawney, they will look to defend their home court on December 13th against Oil City at 7:15 p.m.
