Bloomsburg is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They are taking a road trip to challenge the Southern Columbia Area Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Bloomsburg is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Friday just wasn't the day for Bloomsburg's offense. They fell 4-0 to Mifflinburg on Friday.
Meanwhile, Southern Columbia Area got the win against Minersville on Friday by a conclusive 16-6. Considering the Tigers have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Guy Longenberger tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Southern Columbia Area got a massive performance out of Brayden Andrews, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kole Myers, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Southern Columbia Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Southern Columbia Area has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.3 runs. As for Bloomsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bloomsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southern Columbia Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bloomsburg suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Southern Columbia Area in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
