Baseball Game Preview: Lick-Wilmerding Tigers vs. Mission Bears

The Lick-Wilmerding Tigers will take on the Mission Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Lick-Wilmerding has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Lick-Wilmerding and Urban, and Urban kept the tradition alive. The Tigers fell just short of the Blues by a score of 9-8 last Friday.

Benji Cho was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Lick-Wilmerding: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kian Perrone made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Lick-Wilmerding is 3-1 when Perrone posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aidan Baird, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Mission was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Summit Shasta, falling 12-2.

Mission's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Lick-Wilmerding, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Lick-Wilmerding was able to grind out a solid victory over Mission in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 8-5. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
