The Roncalli Catholic Crimson Pride lost against the South Sioux City Cardinals back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Roncalli Catholic took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Sioux City. While losing is never fun, Roncalli Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while South Sioux City is ranked 50th).
Roncalli Catholic lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madeline McChesney, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brigid Mcgill, who scored 11 points.
Brooklyn Heineman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds for South Sioux City. Heineman has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabella Moret, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Roncalli Catholic's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-9. As for South Sioux City, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-7.
Roncalli Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Bennington at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bennington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for South Sioux City, they and Bishop Heelan Catholic will face off on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bishop Heelan Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully South Sioux City likes a good challenge.
