It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Millard West Wildcats ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They walked away with a 54-47 win over Columbus. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Millard West also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2022.
Leading Millard West to victory were Cooper Fortune and Reece Carson. Fortune scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds, while Carson scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Gassen, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds.
Several Discoverers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Griffin Micek, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Hastreiter, who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds.
Millard West's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Columbus, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Millard West will square off against Papillion-LaVista South at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. As for Columbus, they will head out on the road to face off against Grand Island at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
