The Aptos Mariners will challenge the Menlo School Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Aptos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Menlo School will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Aptos extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Mariners walked away with a 5-1 win over San Lorenzo Valley. The five-run effort marked the Mariners' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Aptos got a great performance from Oliver Meyers as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.
At the plate, Alec Mendoza and Cole McGillicuddy did most of the damage at the plate: Mendoza went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double, while McGillicuddy went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. McGillicuddy has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Kissinger, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Menlo School had taken Half Moon Bay down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Knights fell 11-7 to the Cougars.
Chuck Wynn made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Renner Barnett was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Aptos' victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Menlo School, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Aptos hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Menlo School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Aptos was able to grind out a solid win over Menlo School in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, winning 6-1. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
