Marshall will head out on the road to challenge South El Monte at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Marshall's last matchup with Arroyo could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Tuesday. The Eagles came up short against the Knights, falling 8-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Marshall got a good showing from Caleb Kaloostian, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kaloostian has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marshall saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Ouch, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, South El Monte sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Rosemead on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Panthers since March 16, 2022.
South El Monte let Maximo Pineda and Riley Leon run wild. Pineda got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Leon went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Leon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bobby Rojas, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
South El Monte pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Marshall, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-10.
Marshall beat South El Monte 8-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Will Marshall repeat their success, or does South El Monte has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
