The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders entered their tilt with the Oceanside Pirates with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mater Dei Catholic managed a 37-33 victory over Oceanside on Saturday. For Mater Dei Catholic, this counts as revenge for the 43-38 loss Oceanside walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Dei Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Promise Martin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Martin hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana karen Lacave, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Oceanside still got an impressive performance from Martina Griffin, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Griffin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played. Aliyah Samad was another key contributor, scoring two points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Mater Dei Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Oceanside, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.
Mater Dei Catholic's road trip will continue as they head out to face Victory Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. As for Oceanside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against La Costa Canyon at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
