The Parkland Matadors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 69-23 defeat at the hands of Hanks. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Parkland in their matchups with Hanks: they've now lost six in a row.
Daisy Nunez was Parkland's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Rachael Silva held things down on the boards with four rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with five assists.
It was another big night for Anette Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds for Hanks. Hernandez hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 18 straight games. Daisy Fernandez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Parkland has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Hanks, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Parkland will take on Horizon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Horizon comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Hanks' road trip will continue as they head out to face Ysleta at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Ysleta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1033rd, while Hanks is ranked 423rd).
