Lake Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Munster 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since April 20th.
Maddie Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lake Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Piper Urbanski, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Crown Point had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Governors as they made off with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Emily Biesen tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
At the plate, Lulu Johnston was incredible, going 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Evi Cuevas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Lake Central's record now sits at 26-2. As for Crown Point, their record is now 23-5-1.
Everything went Lake Central's way against Crown Point in their previous meeting on May 12th, as Lake Central made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
