The Westchester Comets entered their tilt with the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Westchester walked away with a 42-29 win over Long Beach Poly on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Westchester also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Westchester got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mariah Blake out in front who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Blake is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Myles, who scored eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Long Beach Poly lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brooklyn Taylor. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. Taylor hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Bailey Prewitt, who scored no points along with 22 rebounds and two blocks.
Westchester's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Long Beach Poly, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westchester will face off against Fairfax at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairfax will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 639th, while Westchester is ranked 75th). As for Long Beach Poly, they will head out on the road to take on Lakewood at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
