Underclassmen are dominating several key offensive categories in Indiana boys basketball this season, according to the MaxPreps Computer Rankings. Rebounding and scoring have a particularly underclass flavor.
Only three of the top 10 rebounders are seniors. A sophomore, 6-foot-8 Sidney Curry of Horizon Christian Academy in Fort Wayne, is at the top with a 14.3 average. Curry also averages 20.1 points (high of 42), 3.9 assists and 2.6 blocks. Sophomore teammate Ozzie Johnson is No. 4 with a 13.2 average.
The top 10 also includes four juniors and one other sophomore.
In scoring, underclassmen rank No. 4, 5, 6 and 8 in the state's top 10 and also hold down the No. 11, 12 and 14 spots.
Junior Hayden Langkabel is the No. 4 scorer with a 26.7 average. The six-footer from Morristown has exceeded 30 points three times and is shooting 54 percent from the field.
Underclassmen also know how to dish out assists, holding down six positions in the top 10. Tyce Frank, a 6-4 junior from Oak Hill, ranks No. 3 with 7.3 assists per outing. He averages 3.5 assists per turnover with a high of 11 during a 62-60 loss to Mississinewa. In addition, Frank averages 13.8 points and 4.6 rebounds.
