The Cor Jesu Academy Chargers will challenge the St. Joseph's Academy Angels at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Cor Jesu Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Cor Jesu Academy took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Rockwood Summit, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chargers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Falcons 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Alice Vogel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Beau Belz, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Grace Rasmussen, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph's Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Blue Devils 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Angels, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Julie Origliasso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Sara Munaco was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Byrne, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles.
St. Joseph's Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.
Cor Jesu Academy's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for St. Joseph's Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cor Jesu Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like St. Joseph's Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Cor Jesu Academy's way against St. Joseph's Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Cor Jesu Academy made off with a 9-0 win. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Angels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
