Sean Downs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Rancho Christian is undefeated when Downs posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayson Kobayashi, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025. Micah Kovacs also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Rancho Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Valley View never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Orange Vista with a sharp 6-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Valley View also got a great performance from Alexander Aguiar as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Jovaughny Pena was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Rancho Christian's record now sits at 7-3. As for Valley View, their record is now 12-0.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rancho Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .530. However, it's not like Valley View struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
