Softball Recap: Deerfield-Windsor Starts Season with Victory Against Westover

Deerfield-Windsor had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 19-8 margin over the Westover Patriots. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Mary Ruth Courtney made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Courtney was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run.

In other batting news, Deerfield-Windsor got a massive performance out of Jennings Curington, who went 4-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Emily Phillips, who went 1-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Deerfield-Windsor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westover only managed seven hits.

Westover now has a losing record of 1-2.

Deerfield-Windsor wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-3 victory against Dougherty on the 14th. As for Westover, they have also already played their next match, a 19-5 win against Sumter County on the 13th.
