Baseball Recap: Whittier Christian Has No Trouble Against Western

Whittier Christian lost to Western back in February of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Heralds put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 24-4 win. Considering the Heralds have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Elai Guzman made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Guzman was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Luke Jung was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Ace Cabrera, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Whittier Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Whittier Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Western, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whittier Christian will head out to take on Valley Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Heralds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Defenders have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Western, they are taking a road trip to square off against Los Amigos at 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers are facing the Lobos at the right time seeing as the Lobos are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
