Given Archbishop Ryan's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Explorers are ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Archbishop Ryan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Sorber, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sorber has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 17 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Darren Williams, who scored 20 points along with five assists and two steals.
Archbishop Ryan is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for La Salle College, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Archbishop Ryan will take on the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Conwell-Egan Catholic is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. As for La Salle College, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Burrs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
