The Cuero Gobblers will challenge the Sinton Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cuero knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Sinton likes a good challenge.
On Friday, Cuero and Rockport-Fulton were almost perfectly matched up, but Cuero suffered a 57-56 loss. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (35), the Gobblers still had to take the loss.
Defeat or not, Cuero got some senior leadership from Jaxxon Marie and Walker Dietze. Marie threw for 312 yards and five touchdowns, while Dietze picked up 100 receiving yards and three TDs. Marie was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards.
Meanwhile, Sinton put another one in the bag last Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Calallen with a sharp 32-10 win. Those 32 points were actually the fewest the Pirates have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Cuero better keep an eye on Mykha Green. He was instrumental in Sinton's win, rushing for 219 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries. Green is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 215 every time he's taken the field this season. Sean Hughes was another key player, picking up 92 receiving yards and one TD.
Sinton's run defense was locked in: Calallen could only muster 3.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least two total tackles, Green stood above the rest. He rushed for 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries. Sinton didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.8.
Having lost for the first time this season, Cuero fell to 6-1. As for Sinton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Cuero came up short against Sinton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 23-18. Thankfully for the Gobblers, Triston Handson (who rushed for 208 yards and three scores) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
