Tulare Union had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-1 to make it five. They came up short against the Corcoran Panthers, falling 16-5. If the Tribe were looking for revenge after losing 8-7 to the Panthers when the teams met back in February of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Ryan Matthews made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Corcoran, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.5 runs this season.
On Corcoran's side, Cruz Portillo and Brody Frazier made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Portillo tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Frazier struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. The dominant performance also gave Portillo a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Portillo went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and four runs, while Frazier went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Frazier has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
In other batting news, Cortez Portillo was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brayden Espinoza was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Tulare Union wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 13-2 loss against Minarets on the 28th. As for Corcoran, they have also already played their next matchup, an 8-5 defeat against Fresno on the 28th.
