On Tuesday, National Cathedral faced the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. National Cathedral was beaten by the Mighty Hoppers 61-27. National Cathedral's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Georgetown Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nevaeh Roberson led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Roberson hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Moore, who scored 19 points along with four steals.
National Cathedral dropped their record down to 3-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Georgetown Day, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-6.
National Cathedral will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Storm at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in their respective states (Mercersburg Academy is ranked ninth in Pennsylvania, while the are ranked 12th in District of Columbia). As for Georgetown Day, they and the will face off at 4:15 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Holton-Arms is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
