The Vela Sabercats entered their tilt with the Sharyland Rattlers with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Vela took down Sharyland 53-34 on Tuesday. Given Vela's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while Sharyland is ranked 1190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Janai Coleman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 11 rebounds. The game was her tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gg Betancourt, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Sharyland still got an impressive performance from Mariajose Campos, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Vela pushed their record up to 17-3 with that win, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.06 points. As for Sharyland, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vela will be home for the holidays to greet Valley View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Valley View comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Sharyland will be home for the holidays to greet McAllen Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
