The Wagner Thunderbirds had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 34-21 win over Boerne-Champion. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Wagner also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Wagner's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Juan'yae Taylor, who rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown. Taylor's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Smith, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Wagner has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Having lost for the first time this season, Boerne-Champion fell to 6-1.
Wagner will head out on the road to face off against Hays at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hays will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 645th, while Wagner is ranked 137th). As for Boerne-Champion, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Smithson Valley at 7:00 p.m. Smithson Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Boerne-Champion likes a good challenge.
