Sonoraville hasn't had much luck against Heritage recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Phoenix will look to defend their home field against the Generals at 5:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Sonoraville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Georgia's top teams: LaFayette, who was ranked 20th at the time (Sonoraville was ranked 24th). The Phoenix narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Ramblers 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Phoenix as they're now sitting on five straight.
Lila Mullinax spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Cadence Mulkey was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Heritage, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Calhoun 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Generals have posted since September 12th.
Bailee Hollis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in August. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Hollis wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paisley Collins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. That's the most hits Collins has posted since back in August. Another was Brylee Pritchett, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Sonoraville's victory bumped their record up to 24-5. As for Heritage, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.
Sonoraville skirted past Heritage 1-0 when the teams last played back in September. Do the Phoenix have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Generals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
