Baseball Game Preview: Pierce Bears vs. Winters Warriors

For the second straight game, Pierce will face off against Winters. The Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Pierce has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while Winters will arrive with five straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Pierce's offense. They lost 13-0 to Winters on Tuesday.

For Winters' part, Jordan Calvert was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Calvert has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Everett Beason was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. He has become a key player for Winters: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-8 otherwise. Sebastian Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Winters always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pierce only posted an OBP of .312.

Winters' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Pierce, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pierce has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Winters struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
